Accounting for the People

Why Liberare?

Latin: To liberate. Pronounce it like “liberation” (lib-er-ar-ay).

Liberare Bookkeeping: A bookkeeping and accounting venture that works with nonprofits and grassroots organizations.

We believe: That ethical and accurate bookkeeping plays a crucial role in the sustainability of our movements. We are committed to providing affordable bookkeeping at highest ethical and professional standards to support organizers, activists, and all people working towards collective liberation.

What does Liberare do?

Routine bookkeeping: We keep your financial picture up to date by recording your bank transactions in the right place in your books. We’ll handle money coming in, money going out, and everything in between (you’d be surprised what’s in there).

Bill pay and deposits: We are payables experts, if we say so ourselves. And we’ll get your money into the bank and make sure any online income is accounted for.

Monthly close: Just as important as bank transactions are the accounting processes needed to close the month. We’ll reconcile your bank statements, tie up loose ends on your balance sheet, and make sure your books are GAAP-compliant. What is GAAP? Ask us!

Payroll: We’ll get your people paid and ensure that all your salaries, wages, taxes, fees and other payroll complexities are handled correctly.

Reporting: You want to know how your organization is doing financially, and we want to show you. From the P&L and balance sheet to custom-designed digests and dashboards, we’ve got your back with transparent and understandable financial reports.

Audit prep: We do all our work with an eye to the annual audit or financial review. That means no panicked scramble to prepare materials for the CPA at year-end! We work with your CPA to keep reviews and tax filings as smooth as possible.

Filings: Speaking of filings, we will handle all your 1099-NECs, so that you never again wake up on January 30th saying, “Oh f*ck the 1099s!” We can also file your Form 5500 for retirement plans.
